7 Hot Girl Summer Hair Tips

Summer 2022 is on the horizon, and I want you to follow these

7 tips to be the baddest babe with the best hair.

1 Start summer with a cut

Refresh your style and remove split ends, and, don’t be shocked, you will need a mid-season trim, too. Hair can grow faster in the summer because higher temperatures increase blood circulation in the body resulting in more nutrients in our bloodstream being delivered to our hair follicles.

2 Protect, don’t neglect ;)

The UV rays from the sun literally cook the cuticle, the outer layer of hair. Damage can look like broken or split ends, dry and brittle strands, thinning, frizziness, and discoloration. Even hair that isn’t color-treated will still face the sun’s wrath. Protect your hair and increase your color longevity by using hair care products that contain UV filters and wearing scarves or wide-brimmed hats. Covering additionally helps the scalp retain moisture which is vital for these hot summer days.

3 Before you take a dip…

Get your hair wet with clean water before entering the pool or ocean. Your hair won't absorb as much chemicals or saltwater. Use clean water and/or a leave-in conditioner. Also, try to rinse your hair afterwards, too. If there isn't a shower nearby, keep a spray bottle filled with fresh water.

4 Wash less often

Summer is very drying on our tresses. Washing less allows our hair to retain as much natural oil as possible. Exactly how often you shampoo is a personal decision based on your lifestyle and how oily your scalp gets. Use dry shampoo or a co-wash in place of regular shampoo to go a bit longer between washes.

5 Fight the frizz

Heat means humidity which means, dare I say, frizz. Hair that's healthy and well-maintained is your best defense against frizz. Along with regular trims and conditioning, a drop or two of an anti-frizz oil or serum can help smooth hair and add shine.

6 Reduce or skip heat styling

To hit the nail on the head one more time, hair is already exposed to excess heat in the summer meaning you should limit the blow dryer and heat styling tools to 1-2x a week. Aim for heatless styles likes braids and buns and utilize accessories like scrunchies, barrettes, and jaw clips.

7 Wear loose styles

Hotter days make it essential to put your hair up. I strongly advise avoiding tight hairstyles like COVID-19 (too soon?). Tight hairstyles pull the hair traumatizing the follicles which can lead to tension alopecia. Opt for looser styles like braids, low ponytails or buns.
